I find The Tale of the Princess Kaguya intriguing…
For me Grave of the fireflies. It shows how fleeting life can be by showing how even the healthiest people can perish from starvation and illness in extreme circumstances. Every second counts.
Unpopular opinion, but I don’t actually like Studio Ghibli movies very much EXCEPT Princess Mononoke. I love that movie.
May I know why you don’t like?
Most of the more popular Ghibli movies are about a child being transported to a fantastical world. That trope just doesn’t vibe with me. I’d prefer a straight up fantasy rather than some sort of isekai. Which is why I like Princess Mononoke the most.
I love Spirited Away! My main takeaway from the film is that memory is a huge connector of people (that scene with Chihiro remembering Haku is sooo powerful).
