Life’s full of curveballs, right? How have you adapted to big life changes?
I give myself time to adjust to new situation. I remind myself that I can learn to adapt to changes because it is necessary for growth.
Acceptance. Whatever is natural is neither good nor bad. Change is natural.
With regards to when change brings suffering and paralysis:
If you would suffer in anticipation of change. This is fear. Such as the fear of loss (e.g. of a job, a loved one, control, comfort, security). Do not be afraid.
" Objective judgment, now, at this very moment. Unselfish action, now, at this very moment. Willing acceptance—now, at this very moment—of all external events. That’s all you need."
If the change is occurring, or has already occurred, and you would suffer. This is pain.
“When pain is unbearable it destroys us; when it does not it is bearable.”
“In the case of most pains let this remark of Epicurus aid you: that the pain is neither intolerable nor everlasting, if you bear in mind that it has its limits, and if you add nothing to it in imagination.”
With regards to suffering, be it out of Change or any challenges:
“Suffering arises from trying to control what is uncontrollable, or from neglecting what is within our power.”
